Hockey Gear Storage
Hockey families can run into quite the dilemma when it comes to storing all that gear. In-home locker rooms are hard to come by, but the equipment needs to go somewhere. Right?

In this post, we’ll explore storage solution options and share tips and tricks to neatly keep your family’s hockey gear safe in your garage. For your convenience, we’ve also included a helpful infographic, courtesy of Pro Stock Hockey.
Let’s get organizing!
Hockey Gear Storage Solutions
1. Wire Shelving Unit
Industrial-strength shelving units are not only sturdy but hold up exceptionally well in garages. They’re an ideal storage solution option for sporting gear because they require little to no maintenance and can hold up to 800 pounds.
This type of shelving is excellent for storing hockey skates, helmets, gloves, and even equipment bags. Plus, its functionality only increases with shelving accessories.
2. Baskets
Baskets are a popular option for storing sporting goods because of their ability to hold bulky or odd shaped items. For hockey, they’re perfect for storing pucks, pads, and other miscellaneous items that aren’t easy to place in drawers or on shelves.
Consider basket shelves as an option for your shelving unit. You can also find basket attachments which easily hook onto wire shelving units as well as certain wall grids.
3. Wall Grid Organizer
For garages on the smaller side, maximize your space by utilizing a wall grid organizer. This will allow you to store gear up the wall, saving you floor space and eliminating clutter.
4. Hooks
While hooks are multi-purposeful, they’re excellent for holding and displaying hockey sticks. Mount the hooks to the wall or hang them onto a wall grid to easily store hockey sticks.
5. Garment Rack or Rod
Consider a garment rack or a garment rod for your shelving unit. This will allow you to quickly store jerseys and uniforms as well as keep them from getting wrinkled.
Tips for Storing Hockey Gear in the Garage
1. Create A System
The most important action you can take to keep your hockey gear clean and organized in your garage is first to create a system for storing it. For example, clear a corner specifically for your shelving unit. Or designate a wall for a grid, wall mount, and/or hooks. A plan in place makes all the difference.
2. Don’t Hoard Your Gear
Clutter is a garage’s worse enemy. So, when it comes to hockey and all the pads, jerseys, sticks, helmets, etc. accumulating over the years, it’s best to get rid of anything you don’t use anymore. Try to make a habit at the end of each season to throw out, sell, or donate items you no longer need.
3. Hang Your Sticks on the Wall
With the help of storage tools such as hooks or wall mounts, you can neatly store hockey sticks on garage walls. This will protect them from being stepped on or run over by the car. Plus, this keeps them from cluttering other spaces.
4. Hang Jerseys and Pants
Hanging jerseys and breezers in open spaces keep them wrinkle-free and helps them dry faster and stink-free after washing.
5. Utilize Cabinets and Drawers for Other Gear
Helmets, tape, pants, pucks, and other gear which doesn’t require regular washing should be kept in cabinets, drawers, shelf baskets, or securely on shelves. Designate a place for each piece of equipment to avoid clutter and protect the gear from damage and misplacement.
